Matt Aitken is a dedicated commercial real estate agent at Sherman & Hemstreet. His extensive experience in local government began when he was elected as District One Commissioner from 2010 to 2012 in downtown Augusta. During his tenure, Matt seized numerous opportunities to immerse himself in the intricacies of local governance.
Matt’s contributions extended to serving on the Engineering Committee, where he played a vital role in assessing the city’s development projects. Additionally, he held positions as Ex Officio on the Augusta Richmond County Planning and Zoning board and the Aviation Board.
One of Matt’s notable achievements includes spearheading the installation of a 38mm at the Augusta Convention Center, accompanied by the construction of a new 12m Parking Deck, which significantly enhanced Augusta’s competitiveness in hosting economic events.
Passionate about Augusta’s economic growth, Matt advocates for the revitalization of downtown Augusta by refurbishing historic buildings and promoting development along the Augusta Canal and Savannah River.
In 2014, Matt obtained his real estate license after retiring from a distinguished 19-year career at Olin Corp, during which he achieved 12 years of perfect attendance. Beyond his professional pursuits, Matt actively contributes to the community by serving on the board at Morris Museum of Art, participating in the Institutional Review Board at Georgia Regents University, and being a member of the Coalition of Prison Evangelists (COPE). His commitment to Augusta’s prosperity and his unwavering dedication to service make him an invaluable asset to both Sherman & Hemstreet and the community at large.
